I DON'T like XC part 2

So today was race day for that dreaded cross country course. When I woke up this morning it was thundering and pouring rain. GREAT....AWESOME....THANKS....it continued to pour rain up until about 15 mins before start. The only good thing about the rain it was cloudy and the temperature/humidity was down. Since I had already practiced this grueling course 2 times this week I had a plan in mind to stay slow up til the end-HA that never seems to work for me. I did pretty good until the huge hill after hill after hill part came and I started losing stamina. And of course I walked some. My buddy on the other hand, she did SUPER!! I could only see her waaayyyy in front of me for a little over half of the race, GREAT JOB girl I told you at the beginning of the race today was your day!!  I did end up with 3rd place in my age group so I am thankful!! But I still don't like XC!!

I DON'T like XC (cross country)

Hooray! I finally made it back to the running life after a nice lovely week of miserable back agony pain!! I went for my first successful run Sunday night with the crew for a nice lovely humid sweat dripping 4 miles!! I really didn't mind it though, I was just happy to be able to RUN!!!

So tonight there was a practice session for the upcoming 5k this weekend that is part of the "Serres". (Meaning I have to do this race) This race is probably the one I dislike the most. I know I have complained for the last couple of weeks about all the hills (I live in Ky what should I expect) but this is a cross country race. I am NOT a cross country runner, just let me pound some pavement!! So the crew and I decided to do the practice run tonight, we were the only 4 that showed up and we knew the route so we told the 2 high school girls for guides they could go on we were okay!! Taking in consideration that it had just got done raining about 2 hours before, the grass was wet & freshly mowed, running through a field with several small indention holes, and several hills I SUCKED!! In fact I walked up almost every single hill. I just really didn't have it in me tonight. The only good mile I had was the slow one we did to warm up. I am REALLY hoping that I will feel more fresh Saturday morning and be able to perform much better.  I would really like to bring home some hardware but not going to get my hopes up after tonight's practice run!! Thanks for the run tonight crew, you all are the greatest!!

On a positive note.....The Hubs & I was having a conversation on the way home tonight about friendship and such and he said one of the sweetest things without even knowing how much it made me smile. He said "Well you know YOU are my best friend!" Thanks baby!! I LOVE YOU!! I think that's another add to the many reasons I love him and have for the last 19yrs!!

OK ENOUGH ALREADY!! This back pain is absolutely KILLING ME!!! I really do believe 4days is enough! Yesterday it was ALL I could do to get out of bed and knew it was time to do SOMETHING! So I went to the Chiropractor for the first time EVER in my life. The thought of going has always scared me just not knowing what they would do or how it would feel and the thoughts of all that cracking sounds just frankly scares the crap out of me! BUT it wasn't like that at ALL :) And by the time I left I was able to get up& down but not pain free. He said the joints in my lower right side of my back was locked and had no movement at all in them. (I never knew there was joints in your back!!) I told him I was a runner (I just LOVE saying those words!) and I just want to be able to run again & SOON!! His reply " Of course you do, that is what all YOU people like that think about!"  So I am going back again today for some more therapy and I am hoping by Sunday evening I will be able to RUN!!! So thankful I do not have a race this weekend!!

Let's move on to something better!! I was sent an email recently about adding my blog to this giveaway site called Giveawayscout.com. This site looks to be very handy in informing you about current giveaways going on in blogs and on the web! From their website "Since giveaway contests usually expire quite quickly, we offer an automated update service that informs you by email when a new giveaway in your chosen category is discovered."  I am going to add my blog to this site, if you have giveaways on your blog you should check it out as well!!

Last but not least....Don't forget to enter my current giveaways!!
RoadID ends 7/24 ***Hurry time is running out***
Snorg T's ends 7/30 ***This one is a FUN one you don't want to miss out on***

Good Luck to ALL racers this weekend!! I am envious of you...I just wanna run again!!

300 & Terrible Back

Hooray!! Another milestone for this year, I have reached the 300 mile mark for this year!! Everyone deserves a pat on the back so I am giving me mine!!! Hooray for me!!!

Now if this crazy/awful/terrible back pain of mine would GO AWAY, maybe I can make it another 300 + this year! Not exactly sure what is wrong with my back (besides HURTING) all I did was bend over to pick up a towel and didn't think I was going to get back up :( I attempted to run last night and to my disappointment was only able to take about 5 strides before I gave up and walked. Walking still HURT but I continued on hoping it would stretch it out some. This morning, still in pain but maybe not as bad. I am taking Bayer Back & Body pills, using an ice pack (for 20 mins at a time) and using my prize that I won from Erica H @ I Run Beacause ....I Can(you really should check out her blog!!) a Pressure Point hand massager! It has most definitely come in handy the last couple of days!! I have heard all kinds of suggestions and been doing them all, SO if you have any PLEASE share!!

Run for Independence 5k

Dear Mother Nature,
Would it PLEASE be possible to turn the thermostat down a couple of degrees and knock down the humidity. VERY PRETTY PLEASE!! Us runners all over the world would greatly appreciate it.

That is my excuse for today anyway. Why you say? Cause I sucked today!! I have ran this course 3 other times and I am pretty sure today was the worst finish time ever! And it was 2 mins slower than last year!! For about the entire first mile is nothing but uphill only to proced through a lovely neighborhood full of nothing but HILLS. Then back half way down the monsterous first hill to turn left into, you guessed it another hill. But then the last .4 is leveled out, after I have done exhusted myself in 80% humidity sun beaming down 80 degrees.

I truely felt good the first mile, thought I had a comfortable pace I could hang with the entire race, what did I know.  After about 1.8 I had to take my first walk break but made it a quick one. Passed 2mi maybe about 2.6 another walk break still made it fast but was missing my running buddy! Why didn't I stay with her at the start and I couldn't believe how much different I felt knowing she wasn't by my side giving me that extra mental boost I needed just knowing she was there! Then what do ya know right there she was, really right behind me the whole time!! Just me not being able to see her at my side or know for sure she was right there I lacked confidence that I was going to finish running this thing. For that reason I am THANKFUL for my buddy AND our ENTIRE CREW!! I know we each run our own race and are our own person but if that is what helps me I WILL take it!!

Great Job today GANG!! Several medals in the group today!! I am jealous- JOKING!! :)

RoadId Giveaway

Straight from RoadID's site:

The Top 10 Reasons You Should Wear Id:

1. If you can’t speak for yourself, Road ID will speak for you.

2. Road ID enables First Responders to immediately contact family members and friends.

3. Road ID enables family members to provide additional details about your health or give consent for potentially life saving procedures.

4. Road ID enables hospital staff to locate vital medical records.

5. Road ID can communicate medical conditions or allergy information to medical staff.

6. Road ID can prevent serious delays in treatment by saving crucial time during the “golden hour” of medical treatment.

7. It’s far better to have Road ID and not need it than to need Road ID and not have it. It’s not just a piece of gear, it’s peace of mind.

8. Accidents happen far more than you think they do. Each year approximately 450,000 of us are taken to hospitals unconscious and without identification.

9. Road ID looks good on and makes a statement about your athletic lifestyle – not to mention that studies would probably prove that people that wear Road ID are considerably smarter than those that don’t.

10. Road ID can save your Life. Period.

I was given the opportunity to pick out a RoadID and not too long after I did, I was faced with two circumstances that it could have been possible that an ID was needed.  As many of you followers are aware, I had my first PI (personal injury) last month. You can read about it HERE. Now this wasn't a serous injury but it did make me see the importance!! Then last week after our 1st group run we were sitting outside of our local coffee house chatting. My buddy asked me to walk to her car with her. As we were crossing the street back to our group, a car came flying from out of no where almost hitting us. Had we been just one hair in a different spot we would have possibly been dead! Now in both of my circumstances I was surrounded by family & friends who knew me, it is just all the same that I could have been by myself! Was I ever glad that I had a RoadID!! Another great thing, this company is based in my home state of Kentucky!!

Now for the best part, you know the real reason you are reading, the GIVEAWAY!!! That generous Scott from OutsidePR was gracious enough to also allow one of my followers to WIN a RoadID product of their very own- how AWESOME!!!

Whitaker Bank 5k

HILLS                   BIG HILLS             SEVERAL HILLS
That pretty much sums up the course! I knew that going into the race and tried to mentally prepare myself. Did it work? Not really. Last year this was my 5th race ever, the hottest race ever, I got my best time ever and felt like I wanted to puke (but didn't) first time ever. This year I didn't have any of that except being hot so maybe the mental prep helped a little! I had a really awesome start even with the first big hill in there I still came in at like 8:53, about half way through and third huge hill later I realized I should have started way slower more like a 9:45 ish mile and power through the second half of the race. I think I could have improved my time if I would have. I ended up taking about two 30 - 40 seconds walk breaks and had no umph at the end. 29:37 and 1st in my age group!! Was I ever shocked, as that was a whole minute slower than last year and last year I didn't get anything!! The race announcer (in the photo above he is in the green shirt holding arm up) was trying to trick me (I think). Before he started giving out the names he asked "Is Bobbie Perkins still here?" So in my mind I was thinking I got second (trophies were only given to 1st & 2nd in age groups) and was really shocked to discover I got 1st!! Guess it made up for all them awful hills!!
One of the greatest things that happened at that race yesterday is one of my running buddies who has really been wanting to get an award even 3rd would make her so happy. Not only her wanting an award but she deserves an award she has really come a long long way. Well...forget 3rd she got a 1st place trophy!!!!
WAY TO GO KATRINA!!The Crew! We are all winners just for finishing!

Are you out there?

HLOVE in case you forgot, you won my LauraElaineDesign giveaway! Still haven't heard from you!! Gonna give ya till Wednesday July 14, 2010 to contact me bobbie087.msn.com. If not a new winner will be selected on Thursday.

Is it HOT out??

First of all, HELLO to all new followers!! So glad you came by please tell your other bloggy friends to come on over and check me out, I won't bite!!! LOL!!!

I bet you could never guess...it has been HOT HOT HOT!!! Holy cow, can someone please turn the temp down, I think the thermostat is stuck!!! Since the great vacation time is over running for me has to be in the evenings. And since I have the greatest running buddies EVER (trust me you would be jealous) they agreed that we can start running in the evenings and since we are a 3 party group we can even run in the dark in our town area. But wait did I say 3 party, oh excuse me the first night it ended up being a 6 party group! That was another "new" running experience for me and one that I liked. One of the main reasons I thought it was so great is in pairs we were all at different pace levels therefore no one was ever by themselves and there was a level for everyone that they felt comfortable at. With the exception of it being like 90 degrees even at 9pm it was truly an AWESOME 4mi run!! So we decided to do it again tonight. Hey guess what....it was 88 degrees tonight sheewww what a cool down. I truly think tonight was worse than last night. Tonight's group was 4 my husband and me being 2 of them. Do you think it bothers him to run with 3 women just chattering away girl talking? I think he likes it and THAT is one of the MANY reasons I LOVE HIM!!! So back to our run tonight, all of us was very sluggish not when we got there but about 50feet into the run it just felt kinda ugghhh. We just dragged on as far as we could and decided to walk the first hill. Next hill...yep lets walk it. Then I started getting my pace feeling good and next thing I know I have a lead on the group. Threw my hands up, yay for me, and I decided to do a fartlek (?). Do I really know what that is? NO, but I think you take intervals of going fast and slowing. I felt really good and gave it all I had, when I stopped to wait for the group, wow I was surprised on how much of a lead I did have. We still had a little less than a mile to complete the 4 and my partner wasn't feeling the best tonight. There was NO WAY I was going to let her walk it out by herself so I finished walking with her. Believe me I was ready to walk after that fartlek thing I just did!! But I (we) will practice them more and more! We ended up cutting it a bit short tonight (3.76mi) but I was plenty ok with it, because it was HOT! The hubs keeps a napkin to wipe his head, when we finished (this is kinda gross but) he could ring a steady stream of sweat out of it YUCKY!!

I almost forgot the most important thing about last night (oops sorry) My wonderful, AWESOME mom/photographer was waiting for us, we met at the coffee shop that has tables outside. Even better she had cups of ice water waiting on us!! How AWESOME is that!! Thanks MOM, I Love Ya!!

Click HERE to see some pics of me and my partner and the party of 6!! Once you see it I think you will get the answer to the hubs running with girls!!

My vacation in Review & A GIVEAWAY

So today is the last day of my vacation:( I think I have come up with a pretty good plan that I think the federal government  should adapt and start enforcing. My idea goes like this….. I think at least once every 3 months everyone should get one week off from work, paid of course, and not count or take away from vacation time!! Any one else agree?? If any one has connections with the president or such and can help get this passed PLEASE FEEL FREE!!  Oh and THANKS LOL!!

Although the only place we went to was an overnight trip to a water park, I do have to say this has been a great vacation!! The main reason I say it was great is I REALLY put some miles in last week, thanks to my new-all the time-running buddy SHERI (and now Katrina will hopefully be joining us as well :) I had a couple of bloggers in the past comment to me about finding motivation and how much better it is to run with a partner, but until I did it this week I truly did NOT understand how different it is!! Let me just say I LOVE IT!! I feel like I have refreshed myself and am now ready to become a “better” runner. I hope we get to keep up this adventure together for years to come but i am pretty sure we will:) :)liberty10 17 miles is what I put out last week, i haven’t done that since half training at the beginning of the year!! I was a little nervous on race day that all the mileage would hurt my performance, however I really think that it helped! Although I was a little aggravated about my time, I was able to run the entire 5k and I was able to use the biggest hill in the course to help power up and over!! I felt GREAT when it was over and that is what is important!

Now for the REAL reason you are reading this…the GIVEAWAY!!!100_0141  I recently was given the chance to review SWEATY BANDS and all(well not really all) I can say about them is I LOVE THEM!!! These are by far the greatest headbands I have found so far. It NEVER slips on my head and holds all of the wispy hairs back. Another thing I have also noticed about them is while running it directs the sweat away from my eyes which is a big plus by me!!  I was also sent a handful of GU gels to try out from Scott @OutsidePR. I am not a huge fan of the gels, they are so thick I sometimes have a hard time stomaching it to get the entire thing in my mouth, just a mental game I am sure! The flavor is Orange and really is quite good. When I do get them down, the taste isn’t so bad but I only like the fruity flavors! And of course  there is the Running Chics, who doesn’t enjoy Running Chics stuff! SO the prize package shown above includes: 2pack of SWEATY BANDS, 2ORANGE GU gels and a Running Chics tote!! So how do ya win??

***FOLLOW THIS BLOG (umm HELLO why wouldn’t you want to follow LOL!!) This one is mandatory!!

***Go to Gu and tell me what’s your favorite flavor

***Go to Running Chics and tell me what you would like to have and why

***Go to Sweaty Bands and tell me what’s your favorite

***Link my giveaway on your blog, facebook or twitter (one entry for each one!!)

***Running buddy & I wanting to work on some speed work, Give me (us) some suggestions (one entry)

What a Great Day for a 5k in Liberty, KY

Hey my title kinda rhymes! Lol:) Today's race was another one of those special ones, one that the hubs got to join me and my running buddies! He is always so entertaining and he actually went to school with most of my group so he knows them already(they went to city I went to county school). The morning started out Great smooth, no problems, on time, had plenty of time and the weather was well awesome :) For about the last 3 days or so we have had really good weather low humidity and highs in the low 80's with the mornings starting out about 60. Perfect running weather!! About 2 or 3 weeks ago the hubs and I went to the gym and our spin around the local park loop, on our way home I noticed that we had dressed alike and was no where near each other when we got ready!! Now the hubs is well a manly man and would never go for this "corny type" of thing. However with a little sweet talk and "well I think's" I convinced him we were wearing our matching outfits to the race today!!
liberty4Aren’t we just the cutest! Can’t you tell by the look on his face is just thrilled!! Gotta Love him though!!
The race began, well sort of, the firing gun didn’t go off nobody was  sure if we should go or what, yes , no, yes, still trying to fire the gun, okay here we go now and POW there goes the gun finally! Gotta LOVE small town races!! There was a crowd of about 80 people today and probably not that many, perfect in my opinion! My goal today was to run the entire thing without walk breaks and hopefully keep up with Sheri (one of the buddies).  Last year it was extremely HOT for this race and today was perfect so I was having high hopes. From best I could remember the course wasn’t too bad with maybe just one or so big hills.  That is about exactly what it was except the one big hill was a dozy but I made it right up it and kept on going! I was actually successful in pushing myself up the hill slowing myself to a comfortable pace to get up that hill and still have the strength and will power to keep trucking on!! YAY! I never looked at my watch the entire time, I decided I wanted to be surprised at the finish. And what do ya know, today I stayed right with Sheri and was even maybe 5 seconds ahead WOW! I just knew my time had to be pretty good. Then we finally made the last turn to the finish.(The course made lots of turns zig zagging up and down streets. I don’t like all them turns give me an in & out course please!!) We thought we were going to Sprint to the finish as soon as we rounded the corner but it was a little further than we thought. Waited till it was a little closer heard the hubs saying come baby pick it up, faster and I gave it all I had. Which wasn’t much cause I knew no one was around me and why over do it if ya don’t have to?!! Upon getting close enough to see the official clock, I started thinking I should have sprinted that long stretch and really give it all I had 29:40 is what I finish at. Not a bad time however that is about the exact same time I finished in last year and last year I took several walk breaks!! :( I did NOT like this at all, was very disappointed in myself and wondering how this could really be true??!! Sheri was disappointed as well but we decided we are going to start working on some speed work so it has helped push us!! And that time was good enough for 2nd in my age:)! Hubs came in at 26:07 (a 3min improvement from last year) and got 3rd in his age group!!
So truly all in all, today was a good day!!liberty12  ME, Sheri and Katrinaliberty3

Water Workout

The other day Pete from gymsource.com contacted me and asked me share the following information with my blog followers. So here it is:

Water Workouts Are A Great Way To Stay Fit And Beat The Heat

By Pete Allen

Summer is a highly anticipated season throughout the year. The day is longer, the weather is nicer, and there's always plenty to do to stay active. With so much going on and the plethora of trips to the beach in sight, a lot of people have high expectations to “get in shape” by the time the hot weather rolls in. Whether it’s to capture attention in their bathing suit, or the mere desire to keep up with all the summer has to offer, it is now common to hear people wanting to lose weight, stay fit, and be healthy throughout the summer months.

Unfortunately, the summer season can also be the toughest to exercise regularly. It is sort of a Catch-22 because those with lots of activities planned don’t usually find time to exercise and anyone who does want to work out during the dog days of summer often don’t because heat wears out their stamina and causes fatigue rather easily. Furthermore, activities done directly in the sun or in a hot gym, such as weight training or extensive cardio on treadmills and ellipticals, can be almost unbearable, if not outright dangerous. So where does this leave a person who wants to stay fit while staying cool during the summertime? Well, you can look no further than a cold pool for all your summer workout needs.

Swimming is a great workout that helps to work every muscle of the body using the resistance from the water. In fact, it's been shown that deep water walking for a 130-pound person at moderate levels burns more calories per minute than long distance running on land. This is why it's important to be aware of great workouts like Power H2O, which can help you get an optimal workout without even breaking a sweat.

Swimming laps all day can get pretty repetitive. Doing a great watery workout like Power H2O allows you to push your limits while keeping your body temperature cool and comfortable even on the most humid of days. You start Power H2O workouts by walking around the pool and getting in knee lifts, heel kicks, and lunges for a nice warm up. After this, a workout of vertical jumps, lateral shuffles (16 counts a piece), jumping jacks, running in place, and power jumps towards different areas of the pool come in for the bulk of the workout. These workouts are best done when using the pools current against you. Therefore, it's best to keep moving and avoid staying in one place.

Power H2O is also great for technique because it requires you to keep your posture while in the pool to accomplish each of the goals. Maintaining good posture and mechanics throughout a workout routine are essential to maximizing the effectiveness of the workout and avoiding injury. The long term health benefits of maintaining good posture are more evident. Other than that, the routine itself is not overbearing, as each session lasts 30 minutes and produces real results. They prove that a refreshing pool is a great addition to an individuals repertoire of exercise equipment which most would normally not associate with the pieces of most home gyms.

If you're looking for a less intense workout in the pool – also not as boring as swimming laps -have no fear! Positions like Wall Cobra, Floating Forward Bend, and Corpse Pose are great ways to work the body in the pool without overheating. Actually combining the two workouts is a great combination of a high intensity workout and a relaxing yet rewarding cool down, so try them both out for a full routine.

Pools are usually seen as places where people come to relax and enjoy their time off but water workouts have shown that pools can offer so much more in terms of health. Ultimately, pools are great places for people to workout, stay fit, and stay cool without taking leisure time away from those that want to hang poolside on a sunny day.
