Week #3 Marathon Training- A Bust :(

Disappointment         Aggravated              Irritated

I am so frustrated with myself this week and those three words above is how I have felt ALL week long! Why? I don't really know but it has pretty much started with work. I have just felt so aggravated at work this week and not really sure why nothing is different or changed I guess it has just been one of those weeks!
Anyway the training schedule should have went like this
                                       4,4,4,7
Here is how my schedule went
Wednesday- 4mi/39:41
Saturday - 7mi/1:12:56

Yep, that's it only 2 runs last week:( WHY??? Not really sure. I just couldn't make myself go the the gym or get outside myself last week. Sheri on the other hand is awesome, she completed every run even though she had terrible sinus headaches~GOOD JOB SHERI!!! All I can be thankful for is the fact that it is only week 3 and its still early. Starting this week forward I can NOT and (hopefully) will NOT let this happen again!!

THIS WEEK IS GOING TO BE BETTER! HOW DO YOU FEEL IF YOU MISS OR SKIP OUT ON TRAINING RUNS? HOW DO YOU BOUNCE BACK AND GET BACK IN THE GROOVE AND NOT GET DOWN AND OUT ABOUT IT? DO YOU TRY TO MAKE UP THE RUNS OR JUST LOOK FOR BETTER OUTCOMES THE NEXT WEEK?

First of all thank you so much bloggy friends for the comments on my weird feeling! I really do think it was a migraine and I was perfectly fine the next day! Also welcome new followers:) I gained two new followers this week~YAY!!

I have a couple of giveaways to post but to be honest I feel kind of bummed today(upset over things at work and home not in a good mood and I skipped out on training run tonight~NOT good) and do NOT want to put my negative feelings into a review, so instead I am sharing the Jeff Galloway training video #2!

ENJOY!

Description: Proper running and walking form is essential to reduce the risk of injury. The Jeff Galloway method teaches runners to stay upright, maintain a short stride and eliminate bounce. Let’s get training with Jeff Galloway.

Week #2 Marathon Training/ Weird feeling

Hooray week 2 is done! Here's how it went:
Monday - 4miles/40:29
Thursday - 4miles/37:10   (Sheri did 4 on the 'mill' on Wednesday 38:13)
Saturday - 4miles/38:45
Sunday- 6miles/58:43 Long Run

Again this week with schedule conflicts and weather we ended up having to run not exactly the correct schedule but we did get all of the runs & miles. Being two weeks in I am getting more used to the extra miles but having a two day break in between was a little rough. Sheri got an awesome 4 under 40 on the treadmill so I knew I needed to do a great 4 by myself on Thursday and that I did. I went out from work and do not know a 4mile route but I do know a good 3.30mi so I was just planning on adding from that. When I set out I told myself "Do not look at your time/pace just go!" and I used garbage cans to pretend it was Sheri ahead of me and I needed to catch her! Well as you can see above it WORKED! Sunday after our long run when I got in my car to go home I got this weird feeling and my vision in my right eye was blurry, I felt like I couldn't get home fast enough and maybe like I was going to pass out or throw up?!?!?! I also got a terrible terrible headache in my left eye. I went straight home changed clothes and hit the couch for several hours. Looking back I think maybe I got a migraine but not sure. I did take a GU for the first time in a LONG time on an empty stomach at that so I am also wondering if that didn't mess with me a little? Anyone else ever have these feelings?

Overall this entire week was full of great runs! That of course if very encouraging to me and is really helping me with the mental challenging facing 26.2! I think I can! I think I can!

What's Your Sign?

Now I am totally confused, how about you? The buzz around the office this morning has been about the Zodiac signs changing, have you read up on it yet? Here is the list showing the new dates for the signs:

Capricorn: Jan. 20-Feb. 16.

Aquarius: Feb. 16-March 11.
Pisces: March 11-April 18.
Aries: April 18-May 13.
Taurus: May 13-June 21.
Gemini: June 21-July 20.
Cancer: July 20-Aug. 10.
Leo: Aug. 10-Sept. 16.
Virgo: Sept. 16-Oct. 30.
Libra: Oct. 30-Nov. 23.
Scorpio: Nov. 23-29.
Ophiuchus: Nov. 29-Dec. 17.
Sagittarius: Dec. 17-Jan. 20.

According to the "new" list I have changed from a Leo to a Cancer??? The article I read online about this news says the "wobbly earth" has shifted on its axis and actually did many many years ago like 2,000 which made the star constellations in the sky shift and made the horoscope signs shift by one month however this is old news that just hasn't been discussed but a Minnesota Planetarium Society did a recent interview and has caused the news to spread on the Internet. So if this is "old news" why am I just now being told that I am not a Leo but a Cancer?? Except I am not a believer in the "signs", I do NOT let the "signs" tell me when I should do important things in my life I just take everyday as it comes whatever is suppose to happen is going to happen no matter what the stars have alligned  up to tell me! I have been a Leo for 34 years and I am going to stay a Leo! Also there is a new "sign" included Ophiuchus, I am just glad I didn't fall under that one what the heck is Ophiuchus??

Did your "Sign" change? How do you feel about it? Do you believe in the "Signs"?

Runners World Quote of the Day

I am sure all or most all of you receive the "Quote of the Day" by email from Runners World. I really enjoyed todays and just wanted to share. Enjoy!

Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired. When you were younger the mind could make you dance all night, and the body was never tired...You've always got to make the mind take over and keep going.

Jeff Galloway Video #1

Although I did NOT follow the Galloway run walk method, I do consider it an awesome program. I tell anyone that asks me about beginning running that they should look into it. So when Emily contacted me about displaying the 4 part video serries I was delighted!! Hope you enjoy! Who knows this just may be the method I need to carry me to the end of my first marathon!

Run – Walk – Run Method

The Jeff Galloway Run – Walk – Run method has helped thousands of runners get started. By alternating running with walking you conserve energy, reduce fatigue, reduce injuries and run farther. How fast do you need to run and walk? Once you decide your minute per mile goal, you adjust your run – walk pace accordingly. Let’s get training.

1st week of Marathon training= DONE

Okay so its going to be easy the first few weeks mileage wise, but weather wise is going to be a little challenging. Also being off of routine is going to take a week or two to get used to again. Due to my cold we ended up running three days in a row this week which was rough for the first week of starting a schedule again but it is what we did ALL summer long so it feels good to begin to get back!

Here's how week one went:
Tuesday- 4miles/39:59 Cold Good run until I started having GI issues
Wednesday- 4miles/44:23 Cold Still not feeling the best Sheri having GI issues we walked lots but that's okay!
Thursday- 4miles/40:39 VERY WINDY & COLD w/blowing snow hitting our eyeballs running in that wind really tired me out!
Sunday- 5miles/51:05 Best run of the week cold but no wind both of us felt great the entire run
*Those times are from my memory and may be off by a few seconds!

We had originally planned on doing the 5mi on Saturday but it snowed about 2inches Friday night and was very windy again and only like 10 degrees at the time we planned, waiting until Sunday was much more enjoyable. Sidewalks was still partially snow covered but it helped us keep a slower pace which is something we are working on! Snow and cold is in the forecast again this week so I hope we are able to get out there together again this week and not be forced to complete our runs on the DREADMILL separately!

My advice for anyone looking for motivation, Sign up for a race!!
Watch out Flying Pig Marathon here WE come!!

Happy RUnning!!

What I want from 2011

So what do I look forward to in 2011?

I believe my main goal is to improve myself as a "runner".

2010 was a great year for me in running. *I planned on one half marathon and ended up doing two*I ran in weather conditions I never dreamed I would(and enjoyed them all:)*Found the greatest running buddy and Best Friend anyone could ask for*Was the only person out of several to complete ALL of the Serres races*Made several new friends at local races*Had my first minor injury during a race*Completed 674.61 miles (oops I quit updating my ticker)*(I know there is more but I just can't think right now ugghh this stupid cold!)

As of now I have already signed up for 4 races for 2011! And I consider 2 of them major events!!
#1 Heart Glove & Sole 5k   February 12
#2 Run the Bluegrass Half Marathon April 3
#3 Flying Pig Marathon May 1
#4 Bourbon Chase (200mile overnight Relay) October 7& 8
Oh and I am going to sign up for Tall Mom 1000 +++ so I guess I am setting a goal of 1000 in 2011

Can you guess which ones I consider major??  #'s 3 & 4

Yep that is correct, I (we) have officially signed up for my first Full Marathon!!! ~YIKES!!!~

So right now my main goal for 2011 is DISTANCE! Although I LOVE to PR, I mean who doesn't, I really believe I will NOT be searching for any PR's in 2011. All I want at this moment is to be able to run a entire half without walking and hopefully a Full (but I am sure I will be walking in that I just want to be able to finish it:)!!

I know there are more goals I have but this crazy cold is keeping me from thinking , good excuse anyway right?

Hope your 2011 is off and "running" to a GREAT start!

Happy New Year & Anniversary to me +12k Christmas Virtual report

HAPPY NEW YEAR bloggy friends:)!!! Today is also my 10th wedding anniversary:)!!! I know every couple is special and has a great story but here's mine. My husband and I started dating when I was a freshman in High School I was 14 and he was 13, it was Jan 1991. I knew from the first date that he was my soul mate and that one day I would be married to him. Life events happen and in 1994 our first daughter was born, 1998 our second daughter was born and Jan 1, 2001 we finally got married.  We just up and decided in the middle of the night to go to Pigeon Forge area of Tennessee and just "do it" and that we did! It snowed and was very beautiful we even ended up staying an extra day! Loved every minute of it!!

Sheri and I signed up for the 12k of Christmas Virtual Race hosted by Kayte of Long Legs on the Loose. Yesterday was the day we did our 7.46mi, the weather would have been perfect if the wind would have stopped blowing! If you haven't seen Kayte's Blog you really should check it out, although I do not personally know her she really seems like a fun awesome person! She said there would be a prize for best costume and I knew my wonderful buddy would want to dress up. Being the awesome person she is, Sheri made us some tutu's and got some new years glasses, headbands and necklaces!

Are we not the cutest

Although we couldn't run in the glasses and headbands(they wouldn't stay on our heads) we did run in our town for everyone to see in our tutu's! We did get a few honks and SEVERAL strange looks & laughs! It was fun and totally out of my element but really fun:)

The night before I went to the gym with the hubs and started running on the "mill", I barely made it 1/2mi and I felt awful, my legs were not feeling right from the knee down which ended up being just my right leg. Knowing we was doing the 12k the next morning I decided not to push my luck and stopped at 2mi and do a little weights for arms and ab work something I NEVER do. I told Sheri when we took off I sure hope I run better today and how my leg was feeling. I tried to just block it out of my mind and focus on just running relax and let go. We mixed our route up a little and went through our local cemetery, strange maybe but it was nice/sad all at the same time. There was a couple of small hills and I noticed my leg feeling weird again but pushed on. Again going back we mixed it up a little and had to go up another hill we weren't experienced on plus low mileage for about 3 weeks we actually walked up about 4mins worth until we came to the light where we would have to stop anyway. Checked the garmin we was at 5.70mi and I told Sheri this has been fun and all but I am really glad we are almost done. Off we went again and we was getting close to being back I look down to check mileage just to make sure we are right on track for distance and what.....it still says 5.70 DANG IT I forgot to hit start again oops! Thank goodness there is two of us just in case of failures:) Sheri took a little of a lead ahead of me so I am adding some seconds to make my finishing time 1:13:45 (her watch said 1:13:34) not bad at all and I am very pleased with it! I told my girls I would take them to spend their gift cards from Christmas and the longer the day went on the worse I felt! I had a terrible headache and sore throat (guessing from the awful wind) and my body ached from head to toe! I then remembered going to the gym and realized I was sore from that and that is probably why my body was so achy! Today I feel better except for the terrible sore throat sure hope that goes away fast. Now I also realize places I need to focus more on at the gym but more on that later!

THANK YOU SO MUCH KATYE for hosting the 12k of Christmas!! I had so much fun doing it and really hope we win a costume prize:) And THANK YOU Sheri for doing this race with me and getting our costumes together. Oh and for the pics.....I did have my camera in my purse oops!
